The Village Produce Show!

Well, we’ve been to,

Hampton Court Flower Show, Netley Marsh Steam fair, New Forest Show and The Great Dorset Steam Fair in the last couple of months, BUT……the one we all get really excited about is…….

THE…. ‘Godshill Village Produce Show’

The excitement starts to build, we get the show schedule earlier in the year when Anne & Alison have finalised the classes, one always hopes there will be a class that you don’t actually have to make anything for and that you can take off the shelf or out of a cupboard give it a quick wash or a dust with the sleeve of your shirt…..that will do, I’ll enter that, sorted! I say to myself.
But then…..
The guilt starts to set in and I really think I should make a little more effort
SO
Schedule
On the worktop
Decision made!

COOKERY CLASSES
Carrot Cake, Peppermint creams, (new for me) scones (made hundreds over the years) ….stick to what you know!
loaf of bread….can make that look a bit ‘ARTY’ by sticking in your finger and filling the indentations with olive oil and rosemary.
Quiche, Marmalade.

PRODUCE
Saucer of raspberries

CRAFT
Felted needle case….thats the one I took out of the cupboard and dusted off!

So everything made the night before, should have started before 9pm….. but thats the time I have the kitchen to myself
Finished 3.30am
few hours sleep
before going to the Village hall at 9am

L1060677All the committee there and extra helpers, tables are set out and the exhibits start to arrive, each carefully arranged, tomatoes on plates with the exact distance between each one with the green stalks ON….. don’t want the judges to think we got them straight form Waitrose! marmalade and pickled cucumber jars polished….labels facing the front

L1060683Flowers arranged and foliage checked, just incase there happens to be a crafty little slug hiding under that Hosta leaf. I put my dish of raspberries down (not as good as last year) but one lives in hope…… Then Kate and Daene arrive and place their raspberries next to mine, sod it, definite 3rd for me this year! ……should have put them on my porridge for breakfast!

11am everyone out of the hall, judging starts at half past.

L1060717My job at the show is to write out the certificates, so, I actually hear the judges comments and their thinking out loud reasons why one is better than the other, obviously ones ears do prick up when she is tasting the loaf of bread that I entered, not the enthusiastic response i would have hoped for……. comments on the back were “interesting loaf”

YES a first!!! I feel I should mention mine was the only entry…..Anyway, lets not dwell on that

All the judging finished and the public are aloud back in at 2pm for cream teas and the prize giving!!

well done everyone……..

Not everyone can win!

Sadly not everyone gets a 1st!

Better Luck Next Year
